At 40, John Herschel Glenn, Jr. became the first American to orbit the earth and the only astronaut to
go in to space without the required college degree. He didn't get one because, after Pearl Harbor, while all those other
sissy astronauts were studying, Glenn quit college to fly 59 combat missions in the South Pacific. He also flew 63
missions in Korea where he was nicknamed "magnet ass" for his ability to get shot at repeatedly. In 1998, Glenn went
back in to space, aged 77, becoming the oldest person to fly in space, and the only person to fly in both the Mercury
and Space Shuttle programs. So remember: you may have got crazy high in college but no one ever got as high as John Glenn.
